Yay Area Ol' Skool Classic (Bay Area Stand Up!)

Okay, I’m going to need you to trust me on this one. This song is the ish, for real! Being a native Bay Area resident, I have a certain affinity for anything that relates directly to the Bay.

Journey is a rock band that was formed in San Francisco by former members of the group, Santana. Their song “Lights” is an old school classic about returning home to San Francisco as the night ends and a new day begins. The song was originally written to be about L.A. but singer/songwriter Steve Perry didn’t like the way the song sounded at the time. So the song sat in the corner, it wasn’t until Perry joined the group and moved to San Francisco that he felt the song would work. The singer has been quoted as saying “The bay' fit so nice” and “It was one of those early morning going across the bridge things when the sun was coming up and the lights were going down. It was perfect.” [source]

If you are a night owl, like myself, then you will definitely be able to appreciate this song. You don’t have to be from the Bay Area to develop a liking for this song. You can be from anywhere and still have an appreciation for these lyrics. The next time you are up late because time has slipped past you and you notice the sun rising, take a minute to put this song on and enjoy the sunrise. Trust me; you’ll thank me for it later.

Today also happens to be band member Steve Perry's Birthday.  Happy Birthday from Everything will be Everything.
